Rohmer Gallery

Rohmer Gallery and Acoustic Music Performance Space

In the heart of the village of Saugerties NY, Linh Luu and J.C. Hopkins have opened an art gallery and acoustic music performance space. Linh Luu is a novelist with experience in the London art scene, and J.C. Hopkins is a Grammy nominated songwriter, jazz musician, poet, novelist and abstract expressionist painter.

The concept for Rohmer Gallery is inspired by the New York School, and the intersection of painting, poetry and music it personified. Also the abstract expressionism of Joan Mitchell and the experimental figurative art of Phillip Guston, who worked and lived in Woodstock, and the lives of Wallace Berman and Shirley Morand are other sources of inspiration. The eclectic training of JC as an abstract expressionist painter, poet and musician serve to inform the programming of poetry and music. The gallery will feature work that embodies the idea of art as a transom from the individual through color, representation and abstraction. How we perceive our world and then what it looks like when run through our subconscious.

There will also be music. Songwriters, instrumentalists of different genres; classical, jazz and folk, completely acoustic with no amplification. Rohmer Gallery is an intimate space that is designed for the purpose of sharing ideas, art and music.
